Overview
We are looking to appoint a motivated individual to join our Cardiology Administration Team. We are a friendly team fulfilling a vital front‑line service.
The hours advertised are required to cover service needs. This vacancy is 37.5 hours per week and the post holder will cover both Watford General Hospital and Hemel Hempstead Hospital.
The role demands accurate and efficient work to ensure a positive patient experience during a potentially worrying time. You must demonstrate strong organisational, administrative and communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, use initiative, and have excellent telephone skills. Flexibility to provide cover across sites is essential.
Responsibilities
* Use the referral management centre to register new patient referrals onto the hospital patient administration system.
* Operate busy reception desks, greet patients face‑to‑face, book appointments, and direct them to the appropriate waiting areas.
* Handle large volumes of calls, agree outpatient appointments with patients, and address other appointment‑related queries.
* Provide a first‑class administrative service for the Cardiology service.
* Act as the first point of contact for GPs, patients, carers and relatives attending for Cardiology appointments, ensuring appropriate messages are passed to relevant staff in a timely manner.
* Track patients throughout their pathway and schedule appointments in accordance with waiting‑time standards, alerting the Administration Manager of any potential problems.
* Ensure new and follow‑up appointments are booked, appropriate letters generated, and reports/outcomes circulated to referring clinicians.
* Monitor the Electronic Referral System on a daily basis.
* Guarantee that all cardiology tests are available when patients are seen in outpatient seating.
* Work closely with the Administration Manager, clinicians, and nurse specialists across sites, providing cover for colleagues during annual leave, sickness and busy periods, including cross‑site cover where required.
* Maintain a good knowledge of Microsoft Office and be comfortable with electronic systems, adjusting to cross‑platform working.
* Perform other appropriate administration duties as requested by the Administration Manager.
