Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with a strong interest in learning all aspects of a small diverse farm, concentrating on Dairy Goats but willing to assist in other areas of the farm as needed.
Start date would be as early as March. We will accept applications until May 31. A 2-week work trial will be required to ensure it's a good fit for both parties. Candidates must be physically capable of lifting 50 lbs and working 40-50 hours a week, in all types of weather, and able to start early to complete necessary chores.
An apprentice stipend of approximately $1,200/month will be provided, along with free rent of a Tiny home valued at $850/month. The house comes with linens, kitchen utensils, and free use of a laundry machine. You must provide your own laundry soap. We solar dry clothes when weather conditions are suitable.
Vegetables, milk, cheese, and eggs are available from the farm. Any meat would need to be purchased.
We are looking for someone who wants to build a partnership with us on the farm. We would like your help in implementing new ideas, and we seek a good listener who can take direction well.
Some of the responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
* Milking goats twice a day
* Cheese making
* Feeding and caring for adult and kid goats
* Cleaning barns
* Assisting with kidding
* Setting up barns for kidding
* Learning hoof trimming and health inspections
* Caring for chickens
* Collecting, washing, and boxing eggs
* Helping with vegetable harvest, washing, and packing for markets
* Weeding, watering, and planting
* Assisting with farmers markets, setting up and breaking down (Thursdays & Fridays)
