Your newpanyA well-established SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) school in Stockport is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). The school provides a safe, nurturing, and highly personalised learning environment for children and young people withplex medical and physical needs, including those requiring personal care and hoisting. This role is initially offered on a temporary basis, with the potential to be a permanent position for the right candidate. It is ideal for individuals with a background in care, support work, or health and social care, especially those with experience in lifting, hoisting, and working with non-verbal or medically vulnerable children.
Your new jobAs a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and therapists to support students aged 4–19 with a range of severe andplex learning difficulties. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Supporting pupils with personal care, including toileting and feeding
2. Using hoisting and manual handling equipment safely and confidently
3. Assisting with sensory-based learning activities and therapy sessions
4. Promotingmunication, independence, and emotional wellbeing
5. Working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
What you'll need to succeed
6. Experience supporting children or adults with PMLD, SLD, orplex SEND
7. Confidence in using hoisting equipment and providing personal care
8. A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to behaviour andmunication
9. Strong teamwork andmunication skills
10. A background in care work, support work, or special education is highly desirable
