Through Spire Space Services, customers build and operate their own satellite constellations on top of Spire’s proven satellite, ground, and web infrastructure. As Director Infrastructure Programs you will be instrumental in driving Spire’s next-Gen Operations & Technology software stack for both our customer projects as well as our own constellation.
We are looking for senior Program Managers with experience in managing large-scale IT infrastructure programs, ideally within Space, Defence or similar industries. You will be responsible for directly driving large-scale programs as well as managing a small team of Program Managers.
You will be responsible for all aspects of program management from planning through execution and monitoring, to program completion, including a focus on timely delivery, budgets, resource allocation and management, and scope management. You will directly collaborate with several engineering teams and other technical experts who drive innovation on both Hardware & Software fronts.
The successful candidate will work with a variety of stakeholders to ensure deliverables and milestones are met within scope and budget and manage dependencies between a large number of teams and projects. This role will work across several departments to ensure aspects of various programs are compatible with resources to fulfil program requirements.
What You’ll Do:
1. Develop deep knowledge of Spire satellite, payload, and operations systems to enable your support on driving Infrastructure programs working with Spire technical teams and subject matter experts as required
2. Support the definition and refinement of roadmaps, help develop and present business cases, cost-benefit analysis and drive the decision-making to control risks and maximize benefits to the business
3. Day to day program management from scope definition, activities & resource planning, budgeting and reporting.
4. Perform proactive risk management, actively working to identify, quantify, mitigate, and retire program risks and providing transparency
5. Coach, lead and manage a few other PMs to ensure delivering on business needs as well as their personal growth and engagement
6. Provide programmatic and technical insights and support to several stakeholders including direct peers: Director Customer Programs and Director Constellation Delivery – reporting to Head of PMO
7. Negotiating and influencing skills, establishing and maintaining relationships that promote a successful program outcome.
Key Skills:
8. Experience in managing complex IT / SW Infrastructure programs ideally in defence, aerospace or similar industry. Successful track record driving multiple programs simultaneously.
9. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or applicable field of study or equivalent work experience.
10. Team management experience (big plus)
11. Sound business judgement, commercial acumen and ability to solve complex problems.
12. Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to apply critical and strategic thinking to shape solutions out of complexity.
13. Flexible and calm in the face of ambiguity and issues.
14. Exceptional communication and leadership skills with the ability to win the confidence of highly skilled engineers and executive staff alike.
15. Adept at building consensus across cross-functional teams.
16. Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills.
Preferred Skills:
17. Project Management Professional (PMP) / PRINCE II certification or equivalent.
18. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft products.
Spire operates a hybrid work model, and this position will require you to work a minimum of three days per week in the office.
