To support the Chief Solicitor in providing comprehensive, efficient, and effective legal services to the Council.
Key responsibilities include:
* Carrying out research and advising on all aspects of local government law and practice, with supervision.
* Assisting in the preparation of legal proceedings, including drafting applications and preparing and maintaining associated paperwork.
* Attending court, tribunals, and other meetings to observe proceedings, make records, and ensure the local authority carries out its duties.
* Complying with the Service's objectives in relation to the achievement and maintenance of Practice Management Standards.
* Assisting the Chief Solicitor and Assistant Chief Solicitor in developing the use of Iken, implementing Service Level Agreements, and effective procedures and reporting processes.
* Conducting a caseload of legal proceedings with the supervision and oversight of senior solicitors, specifically in the area of law relating to child care/protection.
* Studying and working towards obtaining a formal legal qualification.
* Maintaining a record of all training and development undertaken and adhering to all rules of procedure and codes of conduct laid down by relevant governing professional bodies.
The successful candidate will also be required to follow the requirements and obligations of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act and the specific Health and Safety Guidelines produced by the Council, as well as observing and following the Council's Equal Opportunities Policy.
