Hays are assisting our client, a large Public Sector Organisation, in their search for a Maintenance Plumber for 6 months initially with the possibility of extension. You will predominantly be based in their Portadown site.
Your new role
Job Responsibilities - Maintenance Plumber:
* Understand and manage plumbing systems within client premises, ensuring all plant, equipment, and pipework are maintained to a high standard and operated safely and efficiently.
* Diagnose plumbing faults, carry out repairs, and reinstate plumbing installations including hot and cold water systems, heating pipework, valves, taps, and associated mechanical equipment.
* Install, maintain, and repair plumbing components and systems following appropriate training, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
* Carry out minor repairs to building fabric and furniture related to plumbing work as necessary.
* Communicate clearly and effectively with maintenance teams, clinical/non-clinical staff, and other stakeholders regarding plumbing issues and resolutions.
* Respond promptly to new and unforeseen plumbing faults or malfunctions, reporting any outstanding issues to the Maintenance Team Leader or Manager to ensure timely repairs.
* Use maintenance management systems to log, update, and close work requests; maintain accurate records of work performed to support productivity tracking and continuous improvement.
* Attend to emergency breakdowns of plumbing and associated mechanical equipment, ensuring all repairs and maintenance are completed safely and efficiently to minimise disruption.
What you'll need to succeed
Requirements - Maintenance Plumber:
* Working knowledge and proven experience in the installation and maintenance of industrial and/or commercial hot and cold water plant and plumbing distribution systems.
* In addition to his/her apprenticeship, the applicant must hold an NVQ level 3 or equivalent City & Guilds Qualification in Plumbing or Mechanical Maintenance Fitter together with a minimum of two years post-apprenticeship experience.
* Alternatively, in addition to his/her apprenticeship, the applicant must hold an NVQ level 2 City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in Plumbing or Mechanical Maintenance Fitter (or higher), together with a minimum of two years post-apprenticeship experience.
* Strong ability to diagnose plumbing faults and carry out repairs safely and efficiently.
* Skilled in installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing components and associated mechanical equipment.
* Good understanding of health and safety regulations and adherence to safe working practices, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
* Competence in using maintenance management systems to record and update work orders accurately.
* Effective communication skills to liaise with maintenance teams, clients, and other stakeholders.
* Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and respond quickly to emergency breakdowns.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development and training to maintain up-to-date industry skills.
* Valid UK driving licence
