Overview
Consultants in Stroke Medicine. We are seeking to recruit substantive consultants in Stroke Medicine to join a team of stroke physicians, neurologists and a wide multidisciplinary team, who are committed to delivering modern stroke care across the full pathway.
In line with the Trust's priorities, we aspire to develop a fully integrated care model. We have conducted an in-depth review of the medical workforce based on available national guidance and have drawn up a scheme which puts patients and staff wellbeing at its heart. We can accommodate candidates whose parent speciality is Medicine for Older People, Neurology or Rehabilitation Medicine. Applicants must provide evidence of training and experience in their parent speciality and Stroke Medicine plus full registration with the GMC or be within six months of achieving CCT in their parent speciality.
Key responsibilities
The appointees are expected to work across the whole stroke pathway and support governance, training, education and research. The post involves a commitment to the delivery of modern stroke medicine. The role does not include on-call commitments for acute medicine, although this can be reviewed to accommodate individual special interest or to maintain acute GIM skills. The acute hospital benefits from co-located specialist services which support the new emergency department with dedicated imaging facility and Assessment Units. The service is consultant-led 24/7 with dedicated Stroke Alert Nurses and a robust clinical governance structure. We actively participate in clinical research and run an RCP-accredited course for the management of hyperacute stroke twice a year.
Location: Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, with stroke services delivered at Sandwell Hospital and the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH).
