Senior Manager, Medical Director's Office
Location: Royal Victoria Hospital, Falls Road
Hours: hrs, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm
Pay Rate: £ per hour
Duration: April in first instance with possible extension
Job Overview
The post holder will play a lead role in the development, implementation and maintenance of the Medical & Dental Workforce Governance Service. This service will actively collaborate with key stakeholders, comply with legislation, embody best practice, support an open, just and learning culture approach and the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care by Doctors and Dentists.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide expert advice and guidance on the application and operation of MHPS processes, including involvement of the Practitioner Advice Service (PPA) and GMC Employer Liaison Advisers where required.
2. Review matters escalated to the Medical Director's Office in line with a just and learning culture, producing detailed summaries and collating key documents for the Medical Director's consideration.
3. Co-ordinate and oversee MHPS preliminary enquiries and formal investigations to ensure they are progressed and concluded in line with MHPS procedures and legislative requirements, including:
Ensuring investigation methods comply with best practice
Maintaining regular communication with relevant parties
Conducting post-case reviews
Identifying and sharing learning outcomes
Liaising with the Case Manager, as required, to provide updates to the Medical Director
4. Work in partnership with Clinical Managers, HR colleagues, and Staff Association colleagues to support effective case management.
5. Lead the development and ongoing maintenance of the Trust's Professional Governance Information System (PGIS) to support proactive case management and triangulation of concerns relating to the conduct, health, or performance of doctors and dentists.
6. Undertake MHPS investigations as required, providing regular updates to the Case Manager.
Essential Criteria
Candidates must meet one of the following qualification and experience pathways:
Option 1
7. A relevant university degree or equivalent professional qualification
8. Plus at least 2 years' experience in a senior HR management or legal role within a major complex organisation
Option 2
9. At least 5 years' experience working within HR or the legal sector, including:
A minimum of 2 years' experience in a senior HR management or legal role within a major complex organisation
Additional essential experience (required for all candidates):
10. At least 1 year's experience in a senior role with responsibility for managing and responding to medical and dental workforce governance matters
- Have at least two years' experience managing people.
Desirable Criteria
11. Chartered membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD)
12. Membership of the Law Society of Northern Ireland
13. Demonstrable experience in building and maintaining effective relationships with:
Medical defence organisations
Trade unions
External regulatory authorities ( GMC, RQIA)
