Responsibilities
As a Design Manager, your responsibilities will include:
1. Managing and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams, including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and process disciplines.
2. Leading design reviews and ensuring technical quality, compliance, and consistency across all disciplines.
3. Overseeing design programmes, deliverables, resources, and interfaces between disciplines.
4. Ensuring compliance with UK water industry standards, regulations, and best practice.
5. Supporting value engineering, risk management, and design optimisation activities.
6. Acting as the key technical interface between stakeholders, clients, and SPP framework partners.
7. Driving continuous improvement and innovation across AMP8 design delivery.
8. Ensuring effective collaboration between civil, mechanical, electrical, and process teams.
Essential Experience
9. Proven experience as a Design Manager, Principal Engineer, or Senior Engineer within the UK water sector.
10. Strong technical background in civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, or process engineering.
11. Experience working within AMP frameworks or with major UK water utilities, ideally Yorkshire Water.
12. Excellent understanding of UK design standards, Eurocodes, and engineering methodologies.
13. Proven ability to manage multidiscipline engineering teams and complex design packages.
14. Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
Qualifications
15. Degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering discipline.
16. Ideally Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership.
17. Professional membership (e.g. ICE, IStructE, IMechE, IET, or equivalent) preferred.
