Senior Data Scientist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Senior Data Scientists to join a nationally renowned Data Science Team. Posts available are:
* 1 x full time permanent
* 1 x full time fixed term/secondment for 18 months
The successful candidates will have the opportunity to work in a diverse and inclusive team that utilises the latest data technology to create insight and solve business problems.
Candidates who display exceptional competencies in collaborative, multi-disciplinary working and strong leadership characteristics will be considered alongside technical competencies in machine learning, artificial intelligence and natural language processing.
Main duties of the job
* The Senior Data Scientist role will support the Data Science Manager in delivering a nationally renowned Data Science function.
* The role will be responsible for delivering high quality, novel and innovative data science solutions and taking advantage of the organisation's high quality data assets.
* You will experiment, develop, communicate, and deploy solutions and insights to drive improvements in patient care, operational efficiency, research, and healthcare outcomes.
* The role is multi-disciplinary by nature and there is an expectation that successful candidates will be a collaborative, innovative and display strong inclusive leadership characteristics.

Person Specification
Skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentation, report writing skills
* Excellent analytical and storytelling skills
* Excellent collaboration skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment, including experience of direct line management of staff.
Qualifications
* Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Biomedical Science, Health Informatics, Data Science, Applied Statistics, Physics, Engineering or equivalent experience.
* Evidence of relevant continued professional development in a specialist data science/statistical discipline.
* Evidence of continuous professional development.
* NHS Leadership qualification e.g., Edward Jenner, Mary Seacole or equivalent.
* Membership of a relevant Fed-IP recognized professional body is desirable (IHRIM, AphA).
Experience
* Experienced in deploying and managing Trusted Research Environments (TREs).
* Has a developing understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the opportunities and challenges that it presents.
* Experience of any major BI Tools. Such as Rshiny, SSRS, Business Objects, PowerBI, Qlikview, Excel to visualise data.
* Experience using Dev Ops and GitHub.
* Experience of NHS Data and understands related legislation.
* Experience of direct line management of staff.
Knowledge
* Broad understanding of data engineering and processing environments including Azure Datalake, ML Ops, Data Factory and Databricks.
* Broad understanding of current NHS, national, regional, and local context.
* Knowledge of statistical techniques (regression, classification, decision trees, supervised/unsupervised, explanatory/predictive models), and how and when to practically apply them.
