Job Overview This exciting post will see the successful candidate acting as a trial investigator for clinical trials of investigational medicinal products, including “First-In-Human studies” 50% of the time, with the remaining time for undertaking clinical duties on the acute medical unit. This post comes with funding to start a Masters in Research (MRes) degree at Bangor University in Clinical Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, as well as an honorary academic contract with Bangor University, where you will provide teaching every 2-3 months. Based in Wrexham, you will work alongside a team of four other junior doctors who are also trial investigators and undertaking the MRes. The post will be split 50:50 with a clinical speciality. The preference for this will be acute medicine, but other options can also be explored. If the post holder wishes to count this towards their training, they need to contact their educational supervisor, training programme director and the CRF director in advance to see if this is feasible. This 50:50 split needs to be flexible to mirror the variability of work on the CRF. Main duties of the job The post holder will be responsible for the planning, recruitment, screening, consenting, dosing and follow up of CRF participants. This may include practical skills such as phlebotomy if nursing staff find it difficult, cannulation, and in future more complex procedures such as lumbar puncture and bronchoscopy. The post holder will work with other investigators under the supervision of more senior investigators and the CRF Director. They will work closely with the CRF nursing team, data team and governance team to deliver clinical trials. Working for our organisation The North Wales Medical School (NWMS), based at Bangor University, operates in collaboration with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB). It has delivered a modified version of the Cardiff University C21 Medicine curriculum for the last 4 years. The School recently received a pledge from Welsh Government, included in the ‘Programme for Government’, to expand the programme and for it to become independent within the next few years.
