Specialist Stroke Speech and Language Therapist

We are looking for an innovative and passionate Speech & Language Therapist to join the Acute/Rehab Stroke Team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This role is rotational across HASU, acute stroke, and stroke rehabilitation, providing specialist speech and language therapy to adults with acquired communication, cognition, and dysphagia disorders.
The role involves working within a 6‑day therapy service (future 7‑day) across multiple sites, collaborating with the multidisciplinary team, supporting clinical lead on service management, and training & supervising students, Therapy Assistant Practitioners, and Non‑Qualified Practitioners.
Qualified candidates should have experience in VFS and FEES; training will be provided if necessary.
Job responsibilities
* Promote high-quality service delivery and SLT presence in MDT working.
* Build relationships with the MDT and liaise effectively for seamless care.
* Provide care across designated areas, prioritising and advising the clinical lead on shortfalls.
* Manage a specialist caseload within the acute/rehab setting.
* Contribute to assessment, diagnosis and management of complex disorders with support from a senior specialist SLT.
* Participate in instrumental assessment.
* Motivate patients to engage in therapeutic processes.
* Support personal and staff CPD.
* Support clinical governance and quality agenda.
Person specification
Qualifications & Education
* Recognised degree / masters in Speech and Language Pathology.
* HCPC & RCSLT registration.
* Evidence of CPD in relevant areas.
* Postgraduate courses in relevant clinical area of Speech and Language Therapy.
Knowledge & Experience
* Specialist knowledge of acquired disorders of communication and dysphagia.
* Experience managing dysphagia and communication disorders in stroke, both acute and rehab settings.
* Understanding of other health care professionals' roles and working as a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience providing training / education to MDT, patients and carers.
* Clinical educator experience.
* Experience using computer-based programmes within assessment and therapy.
* Knowledge of high and low tech AAC.
* Training and clinical supervision of others.
* Videofluoroscopy training or experience.
* FEES exposure.
* Experience running groups within related area.

£39,959 to £48,117 per annum, pro rata.
