SCPHN student for health visiting and / or school nursing
The closing date is 09 June 2026
1-year fixed term contract - The Specialist Community Public Health Nurse student will undertake an academic programme at The University of Hull who stipulate the course length, usually one academic year. The course is a combination of theory and practice placements. The learning environment for the practice placements will be facilitated by a Practice Supervisor and assessed by Practice and Academic Assessors. Employment conditions apply to students as they apply to employed staff.
Main duties of the job
To attend all course lectures and access all learning facilities as made available by the University of Hull.
To attend practice placement and work with Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor to develop specialist practitioner skills and access all facilities within the learning environment.
To work with members of the 0-19 Health and Wellbeing Service team in learning the skills of health needs assessment, group facilitation, family support, leadership and management, evidence-based practice and developing clinical practice.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Current NMC Registered nurse or midwife
* Level 6 (Degree level) or equivalent
* Evidence of continuous learning and development
* Evidence of previous level 7 study
Experience
* Experience of multi-disciplinary team working
* Effective clinical problem solving abilities (ability to analyse associated factors, prioritise needs for action, initiate an action plan and review/reflect on outcomes)
* Experience of applying evidence-based practice
* Experience of problem solving in community settings
* Experience of multi-agency working in a community setting
* Experience of audit/evaluation/research
Knowledge
* Understanding of Public Health and the role of the Health Visitor or School Nurse
* Understanding of current policies relating to Health Visiting or School Nursing Services
* Awareness of the demands of the SCPHN course
* Understanding about issues relating to equality and diversity
* Understanding about leadership
* Understanding about issues relating to safeguarding
* Understanding of the role of other professionals involved in children's services
* Awareness of wider health legislation/policies/strategies affecting children
* Experience in a leadership role
Skills
* Effective Communication and Interpersonal skills (self-awareness, body language, listening, clarifying, tact and diplomacy, ability to make themselves understood, sensitivity to others)
* IT skills- (use of keyboard, email, and a range of software programmes/apps)
* Involvement in the preparation of statements/reports for formal purposes (e.g. case review meetings, court hearings)
