Trust Specialty Registrar (ST3+ equivalent) in Paediatrics
Job reference 434-WANDC-16, Contract: Fixed term 6 months with possibility of extension, Hours: Full time 40 hours per week. Start date: November 2025 (may close early).
Location: Stoke Mandeville Hospital, with duties also at Wycombe Hospital.
Job overview
Appointee responsible for care of inpatients on the general paediatric ward and neonatal unit. Consultant-led ward rounds daily. Participation in MDTs on Tuesdays (neonatal) and Wednesdays (paediatric). Provide medical advice to specialists.
Main duties
* General paediatric and neonatal duties, including on-call shifts.
* Active participation in teaching and clinical governance activities.
* Regular supervision meetings and appraisal.
* Share on-call commitments with middle grade doctors.
* Provide medical paediatric advice to surgical, orthopaedic, plastic, burns, ENT and ophthalmology patients.
Qualifications
* MB/BS or equivalent medical qualifications.
* Full current GMC registration.
* MRCPCH.
Training & Experience
* NLS/APLS/PALS Course.
* Minimum 4 years in recognised paediatric SHO/Registrar training post.
* 6 months experience in a tertiary neonatal unit (outpatient experience).
* UK paediatric experience essential.
Clinical Skills & Knowledge
* Ability to work without direct supervision.
* Sound manual dexterity and routine practical procedures.
* Clear logical thinking with analytical approach.
* Evidence-informed practice understanding.
Organisation & Planning
* Organise time and tasks, prioritise clinical need.
* Ability to work in multi-professional teams.
Teaching
* Experience teaching medical students, nursing staff and other professional groups.
Administration & Audit
* Familiar with current structure of health service; knowledge of initiatives.
* Understanding of principles of medical audit.
* Participation in audit projects.
* Some understanding of clinical risk management.
* Appreciation of clinical governance issues.
Other requirements
* Prepared to take part in all aspects of the post.
* Ability to travel between hospital sites.
* Experience within paediatrics.
