Overview
The team is responsible for the delivery of the Local Authority's statutory duties in relation to the assessment, provision and review of children and young people with complex SEND. Working closely with parents and other professionals from schools, health services and social care, the team ensures that the special educational needs of children are met within the context of managing resources fairly and equitably.
Responsibilities
* Coordinate the statutory assessment and review process, produce Education, Health & Care Plans (EHCPs), identify and commission appropriate provision, and ensure EHCPs are of high quality and meet statutory duties in relation to the Children and Families Act 2014, the SEND Code of Practice 2015 and the Equality Act 2010.
* As an SEN caseworker, assess, draft and amend EHCPs, arrange placement in appropriate educational settings, and review children and young people (0–25) with SEND.
* Provide advice and support to schools and settings, parents and carers, children and young people, and other stakeholders on matters relating to SEND requiring an EHCP.
* Attend statutory review meetings and other multi-agency meetings; give advice on SEN statutory processes, undertake follow-up actions, and liaise with senior SEN caseworkers on recommendations.
* Work with a view to improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND and contribute to continuous service improvement.
Qualifications and requirements
* Passionate about working with children and young people to achieve good outcomes for those with SEND; able to work collaboratively with teams and families.
* Knowledge of SEN statutory processes and a good understanding of challenges faced by children and young people with SEND.
* Proven experience of working with children/young people with SEND and their families in a similar role or within an educational setting.
* Strong knowledge and understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and the underlying principles of the Children & Families Act 2014, and of high-quality SEND provision and delivery.
