Head of Trading (B2B) – Meat
QLM is recruiting a Head of Trading operating within a large, multi-site food manufacturing business, responsible for leading B2B trading activity across domestic markets.
The Role
You will lead the trading function, taking ownership of buying and selling activity across a broad product range, ensuring volume, margin and customer commitments are balanced effectively.
Working closely with operations, supply chain and commercial teams, you will align trading decisions with production output and market conditions, ensuring product is placed in the right channels to maximise return and minimise exposure.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead day-to-day trading activity across B2B channels, managing both procurement and sales decisions
* Optimise product placement across wholesale, manufacturing and export markets, balancing margin, demand and availability
* Develop and manage key customer and supplier relationships, negotiating pricing, volume and contractual terms
* Monitor market conditions, pricing movements and supply trends, adjusting trading strategy accordingly
* Work closely with operations to align trading decisions with production output, yield and availability
* Manage risk associated with volatility in supply, demand and pricing
* Build and develop the trading team, bringing structure and discipline to a fast-paced environment
What We’re Looking For
* Strong experience in B2B trading within protein, food commodity-led markets
* Commercially sharp, with a clear understanding of pricing, margin and market dynamics
* Able to operate at pace, making decisions in real time based on changing supply and demand
* Strong relationship builder across both customers and suppliers
* Comfortable working closely with operations and supply chain in a production-led environment
