Job Description Job Title: Locum Practice Nurse (Maternity Cover) Location: Newport Area, South Wales Working Pattern: 2–3 days per week (flexible) Contract Type: Locum / Temporary (Maternity Cover) Job Summary We are seeking an experienced and motivated Locum Practice Nurse to join a friendly and supportive GP practice in the Newport area of South Wales. This is a maternity cover position offering 2–3 days per week, with flexibility on working days. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care, primarily through treatment room duties and supporting the management of long-term conditions. Key Responsibilities Treatment Room Duties Wound care and dressings (including complex wounds) Immunisations and vaccinations (including childhood and travel vaccines where applicable) Cervical cytology (smear tests) Blood pressure monitoring and NHS health checks Phlebotomy ECG recording Infection prevention and control procedures Long-Term Condition Management Supporting reviews for patients with chronic conditions such as: Diabetes Asthma COPD Hypertension Monitoring, patient education, and lifestyle advice Assisting with care planning and documentation Person Specification Essential Practice Nurse with valid NMC registration Previous experience working in a GP practice or primary care setting Competent in treatment room skills including immunisations and cytology Experience in managing or supporting long-term condition reviews Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team Desirable Chronic disease management qualifications or training Experience using GP clinical systems (e.g., EMIS, SystmOne) Up-to-date mandatory training What’s on Offer Flexible working days (2–3 days per week) Supportive and welcoming team environment Competitive locum rates Opportunity to work within a well-established GP practice
