About the Role

SARC National Paediatric Clinical Director

(Maternity cover up to 18 months)

Base Location: Head Office in Stevenage but the role is mostly remote for management except when required on site and on-call for SARC services.

This role predominantly covers both paediatric and adult services.

Salary: £95,478-99,754 (pro rata)

Part Time, 24 hour per week

Rota : 9am – 5pm Monday – Friday (exact days to be discussed but flexible)

Reports to Medical Director


JOB SUMMARY:

Mountain Healthcare provides services commissioned by the Police and NHS Health & Justice Commissioners to provide an effective forensic healthcare service. The National Clinical Director will work with the Medical Director, Associate Medical Directors, Clinical Director for Custody, Directors of Nursing, Associate Head of Healthcare, safeguarding team, SARC Managers and paediatric teams to deliver a high-quality service nationally and use their expertise for complex case management.

In addition, the role can include working in national SARCs and undertaking face to face assessments to make the role full time.

As part of the Forensic Medical Programme, Mountain Healthcare has developed a framework to develop key areas of knowledge and skills which will be invaluable in all specialities, especially A&E, GP, paediatrics, psychiatry and of course, Forensic and Sexual Offence Medicine

The Clinical Director role will be a national role and the appointed individual will be expected to provide clinical advice and support quality assurance activities for children under 18 years attending a Mountain Healthcare SARC service. This may include statement support and peer review for these cases. The Clinical Director will be expected to undertake a leadership role within the safeguarding team for Mountain Healthcare. In addition, the role will include working within the Paediatric SARC services undertaking paediatric child sexual abuse assessments. In addition, the Clinical Director will also be expected to support with clinical decisions and safeguarding and advise on quality improvement initiatives for children and young people attending MH custodial healthcare services.

GMC Registration is required. Note that we cannot support International Visas. Police vetting requires 3 years residence in the UK.



Job Opportunity

Key Leadership Responsibilities:

•The Clinical Director will act as clinical mentor for Senior Medical Leads in the organisation.

•The Clinical Director will deputise for the Medical Director as appropriate where they are unavailable.

•The post holder will liaise with all appropriate outside agencies (including, but not limited to local councils, police, health providers, social care departments) as necessary

•The post holder will be level 3 safeguarding trained and be able to undertake incident investigative analysis, desk top reviews and contribute to reports.

•The post holder will work as part of the wider safeguarding team and will lead on the development of medical pathways.

In addition:

•Manage the delivery of training, including shadowing opportunities for MHL doctors, contributing to doctors induction and training to external agencies.

•Responsible for recruitment and onboarding of new doctors into SARC, working with the recruitment team.

•Responsible for rota management in collaboration with the rota managers including signing off expenses, approving shifts and overtime and authorising annual leave

Performance management:

•The post holder, will support the governance activities, aligned with CQC compliance, Forensic Science Regulations and other national standards.

•Share best practice and drive improvements in care especially in relation to complex case management and safeguarding in children and young people.

•The post holder will be required to undertake in clinical/multi-professional audit and hold the action plans for improvement.

•Represent Mountain Healthcare at local and national meetings, where relevant.


Education and training:

•The post holder will be expected to support training and other continuing medical educational activity within the company. This will include peer review, supervision, teaching, shadowing examinations and signing competencies of others including Doctors and nursing staff if necessary.

•Be responsible for developing own skills and knowledge in this new field.

•Work in collaboration with the Senior Medical team to ensure appraisals and the revalidation programme are compliant with the GMC.

Strategy and service improvement:

•Collaborate with the Clinical Director for Custody in developing business strategy related to these services.

•Develop Forensic strategies according to FFLM guidelines.



Essential Skills

Essential Skills Required:

* Medical Degree & Completion of Foundation Training + 3 years at specialty trainee level
* UK full residency for minimum 3 years are required for police background checks
* Membership of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine in Sexual Offence Medicine
* GMC Registered


Desired

* Experience in management, clinical governance, audits, safeguarding, expert witness work, Forensic Science Regulations
* Diploma in Children’s Health
* Postgraduate qualifications in research
