My client a leading business services outsourcing provider, for one of the largest public sector bodies in England are seeking an experienced Contract Director to provide senior leadership and strategic oversight, of a high‑value, complex public sector contract. This role is critical to ensuring contracts deliver value for money, service excellence, compliance and positive outcomes for citizens and service users.
Reporting to their Growth Director, you will act as the accountable owner for the organisation’s largest client. This is an exciting opportunity as the end client goes through a period of change to really build out and define what good looks like in terms of implementing an effective strategy and structure for their largest customer.
Key responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership and accountability for major public sector contracts and supplier relationships.
* Ensure contracts are delivered in line with statutory requirements, governance standards and public sector best practice.
* Lead commercial strategy, including contract negotiation, variations, renewals and financial performance.
* Oversee contract performance, service quality and delivery against KPIs and SLAs.
* Act as the senior escalation point for contractual, performance or relationship issues.
* Lead engagement with senior stakeholders, including Boards, auditors, regulators and delivery partners.
* Identify and mitigate commercial, financial and operational risks.
* Drive continuous improvement, innovation and social value through contractual mechanisms.
* Lead, mentor and develop contract management and commercial teams.
* Contribute to wider organisational strategy, transformation and policy objectives.
Essential experience and skills
* Proven experience leading high‑value, high‑risk contracts within the public sector.
* Strong understanding of public sector contracting procurement and governance frameworks.
* Excellent commercial and financial acumen.
* Significant experience of senior stakeholder management and negotiation.
* Demonstrable leadership experience, including leading multidisciplinary teams.
* Ability to operate with credibility at Board and executive level.
* Strong risk management, assurance and compliance capability.
* Experience within healthcare, local government, central government or arm’s‑length bodies
* Knowledge of contractual frameworks such as NHS Standard Contract, CCS frameworks, or PCR / PSR
