Offer description

Research Associate/Fellow (Fixed-Term) (MED250725)

We are a pioneering institution that provides an exceptional research-led education for 45,000 students from over 150 countries.

Applications are invited for the above post based in Translational Medical Sciences.

We are excited to advertise this opportunity to work in the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre (BRC), respiratory theme. This fixed-term post runs from 1st November 2025 through to 31st October 2026. The main working pattern is anticipated to be Monday to Friday.

The post is funded by Asthma + Lung UK and is an exciting opportunity to work on a project that is a priority area for them. The successful applicant will be leveraging their data science expertise to work on a complex large linked primary care dataset (the Clinical Practice Research Datalink) aiming to assess the role of social inequalities in asthma care at a national level.

The Respiratory theme of the NIHR Nottingham BRC sits within the Translational Medical Sciences Unit of the University of Nottingham. It consists of a dynamic, friendly and multidisciplinary team of researchers from clinical and non-clinical backgrounds with expertise across epidemiology, clinical research and the life sciences. It has strong internal collaborations with the Lifespan and Population Health Unit.

The team regularly attracts funding from external sources awarded across different career stages and has experience offering support to help early career researchers develop their own ideas and transition to independence. This exciting role provides an opportunity to publish in an area of growing policy interest, potentially offering a springboard to independent funding.

The successful applicant will hold a PhD (or be near to the completion of a PhD) or equivalent in a Medicine, Public Health, Epidemiology or Statistics related field. They will have previous experience manipulating large health datasets and using epidemiological research methods. They will also be able to work independently using recognised and novel methodologies to deliver agreed project goals.

The University of Nottingham offers a friendly, diverse, and supportive working environment. There are opportunities for a hybrid working arrangement with the blended approach of home and office working each week. The successful applicant will be entitled to a generous 30 days of annual leave plus standard bank holidays and five university closure days, including closure between Christmas and New Year. You will have access to a range of benefits and rewards, including fitness and health facilities, staff discounts, travel schemes and many more. To find out more about what we can offer you, follow the link to our benefits website .

This sis a Fixed-term position funded until 31/10/2026. Your working hours will be 36.25 hours per week. If you are interested in part-time work (minimum 29 hours per week), we encourage you to apply. Please specify your preferred hours in your application. We may also consider job share arrangements.

Further details are available in the role profile below. Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
