Overview
Adult Creative or Talk Based Counsellor or Therapist (or similar) wanted to support Priority, under-resourced children, young people and their families. You’ll help adults access fully-funded and appropriate one-off, brief, or longer-term sessions, as therapeutically right for them, to improve long-term mental health equity and outcomes and social mobility.
You’ll contribute to sustaining and growing the service beyond current challenges, expanding from local to regional impact.
Responsibilities
* Meet the continued increases in demand for our therapeutic service.
* Develop provision for parents, carers, adult siblings and wider family members.
* Offer therapy and counselling for our volunteers and interns.
* Offer therapy and counselling to the adults who work with our children, young people and families.
* Work in a holistic person-centred, humanistic or similar approach.
* Build strong therapeutic relationships with individuals who use the sessions.
* Use creative interventions (e.g., play, art, drama, movement, dance, music, sand) as appropriate, alongside talk-based approaches.
* Be committed to duration of work and therapeutic planning.

* Believes people are the experts of their experiences.
* Can quickly understand the needs and challenges faced by individuals and the organisation.
* Believes there’s no such thing as “hard to reach” communities and uses user-informed procedures to improve accessibility.
* Keeps informed about latest research and approaches around Trauma-Informed care and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and personalised therapy.
Skills
* BACP, BAPT, PTUK, BAAT or other membership/registration.
* Experience of receiving therapy/counselling as part of training.
* Accurate, up-to-date knowledge, experience and therapeutic practice skills, including safeguarding and child protection.
* Self-motivated with clear communication and ability to work on own initiative.
Specific Skills and Experience
* Knowledge of mental health and its impact; experience of socio-economic deprivation and/or marginalised communities.
* Understanding of how housing insecurity affects mental health and wellbeing of children, young people and families.

We’d love a therapist or counsellor with experience of remote working and face-to-face work with adults and families.
