Overview
The Environment Agency is seeking a Commercial Services Manager to support the team overseeing the commercial governance of contracts with key consultancies and contractors. The role involves helping maximise value for money, setting up and managing pathfinder programmes, and developing long-term collaborative partnerships that deliver for both the Agency and society.
You will be part of the Commercial Assurance and Framework Management Team, providing country-wide support to Integrated Delivery Management teams and the wider Project Management community. The team champions effective governance and commercial assurance and aims to achieve the best possible value for money.
Responsibilities
* Support the Commercial Assurance and Framework Management Team in governance and commercial assurance across projects.
* Contribute to setting up and managing pathfinder programmes that embed best practice and develop long-term collaborative partnerships.
* Develop and maintain strong internal and external relationships, acting as an expert on contractual and commercial interpretations within a high-performing team.
* Engage with Integrated Delivery Management teams and local delivery hubs to ensure sustainable outcomes on delivery programmes.
* Undertake training and participate in incident response duties when required as part of working for the Environment Agency.
Experience / Skills Required
* Essential education/skills/behaviours:
o A-Level Qualifications, Level 3 Qualifications or Equivalent.
o Strong communication and interpersonal/influencing skills.
o Stakeholder management experience.
o Strong data and document management skills.
o Commercial acumen – ability to understand and analyse business situations, take proportionate risks, make informed decisions and deliver value for money; a willingness to explore improvements.
o Administration skills – strong organisation, ability to write minutes and draft reports.
o Willingness to shadow and undertake long-term professional qualifications (e.g., NEC training, CIPS) and ask questions to drive development.
o Interest in infrastructure, construction or environmental programmes.
* Desirable Education / Professional Requirements:
o Degree or equivalent professional qualification or experience.
o Working towards status with a recognised professional body such as ICE, CIWEM, APM, CIPS, or RICS.
o Formal training in contract management (e.g., NEC, Contract Management Capability Programme).
o Ability to explain why you would be suitable for the role and what skills you would bring.

Some information about the role’s location and travel is provided, and the role can be fulfilled via hybrid working. The team is nationally dispersed; some travel and occasional overnight stays may be required.
