PE Global is currently recruiting for a Technical Project Engineer (Primary Design) for a global leader in power and energy solutions based in Birmingham. This is an initial 6‑month contract position offering a hybrid working pattern, with occasional visits to the office in Birmingham. Daily rate is up to £522.24 per day PAYE or £695.83 per day Umbrella, depending on experience.
Responsibilities
* Provide technical expertise in the design and installation of substation layouts for 400 kV to 11 kV projects.
* Produce substation layouts and detail diagrams in accordance with UK standards, using allocated CAD resources locally and in other business units.
* Develop technical specifications and material schedules for primary equipment.
* Prepare conductor force calculations.
* Check and approve project documentation in accordance with established standards.
* Ensure own work packages and delegated work packages are delivered on programme, scope, and budget, providing comments where required.
* Provide technical support and develop tender scheme options and related project scope documents.
* Work enthusiastically with a dedicated team, delivering high‑quality support within tight time scales.
Qualifications
* Principle Designer: Minimum HNC/HND in a related engineering field and 8 years of applicable experience, or 12 years of experience in lieu of HNC/HND.
* Senior Designer: Minimum HNC/HND in a related engineering field and 5 years of applicable experience, or 9 years of experience in lieu of HNC/HND.
* Knowledge of transmission or distribution practices (400 kV to 11 kV).
* Familiarity with industry standards such as National Grid, SSE, SPEN, DNO requirements, IOSH Managing Safely or similar.
