Serco Maritime has a fantastic opportunity for a Chief Engineer to join the team in Plymouth.
Role Overview: As the Chief Engineer, you will operate and ensure the correct maintenance and repair of the vessel's auxiliary machinery, ship's systems, and equipment in a safe, effective, and economical manner to meet Flag State and Class standards. You will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and economical operation and maintenance of the vessel's hull, machinery systems, equipment, structure, and fittings, including electrical and electronic equipment, embarked craft, ship's boats, and portable plant.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the operational state and maintenance of all machinery and electrical equipment onboard the vessel.
Main Responsibilities:
* Operate, maintain, and ensure the performance, availability, security, custody, and safety of all equipment and systems under your charge.
* Manage drawings, publications, and spares related to your equipment and systems.
* Compile records, reports, and returns.
* Maintain standards of fire prevention and firefighting onboard vessels.
* Provide written procedures for the Engineering Department as required by the Quality System or ISM Code.
* Demand stores, fuel, and spare gear as necessary.
* Act as the Ship's Safety and Environmental Officer.
* Mentor junior engineers.
* Be responsible for maintenance on more than one vessel.
* Operate winches during towing operations.
Requirements:
* Certificate of Competency issued under reg, lll/3 of the STCW 95 code, Chief Engineer Certificates 3000kw (Tug).
* Leadership and people development skills.
* First Aid, Fire Fighting, Basic Sea Survival, and CPSC Certificates.
* ENG1 Medical.
* Basic Management and Health & Safety awareness.
* Manual handling skills.
* Experience managing customers and suppliers.
* Knowledge of ISM Code.
* Marine industry background.
* Understanding of planned maintenance systems (e.g., AMOS).
* Knowledge of medium-speed diesel engines and electrical systems.
* Flexibility in working hours.
* Ability to undertake towage winch operations.
