Job Title: Public Liaison Officer (CLO)

Salary: £12.21 – £15.00 per hour (depending on experience)
Employment Type: Part-Time FTC, 15 hours per week (3 days, Monday to Friday)
About the Role
Talented People are recruiting on behalf of a respected civil engineering and infrastructure contractor seeking a Public Liaison Officer (CLO) to support community engagement for a major coastal defence project between Brighton Marina and Adur. The successful candidate will act as the key link between the site team and the local community, ensuring effective communication, positive engagement, and strong public relations throughout the project.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the first point of contact for public and stakeholder enquiries.
* Respond promptly and professionally to questions and feedback by phone, email, and in person.
* Maintain accurate communication logs and share updates with the project team.
* Provide in-person support and information at public ‘drop-in’ sessions.
* Assist with the planning and delivery of quarterly public liaison events.
* Identify opportunities for positive communication and project publicity.
* Capture photos and content for use in newsletters, press releases, and social media.
* Provide regular updates on project milestones and community activities.
* Prepare written material for local authority newsletters and site noticeboards.
* Support STEM and careers outreach with schools and youth organisations.
* Participate in community engagement sessions and guided site visits.
* Contribute to social value initiatives, including charity and volunteering projects.
* Promote the company’s positive impact within local communities.
Skills and Experience Required
* Previous experience in a community-based or public-facing role.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Confident handling enquiries and resolving concerns professionally.
* Experience engaging with schools or young people is desirable.
* Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
* Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
* GCSE Maths & English (minimum).
* CSCS Card and/or Public Relations training desirable.
Working Hours
* 15 hours per week across 3 days (Monday to Friday).
* Core hours: 10:00am – 3:00pm.
* Two days based at the Hove office, one day at the site office
