THE ROLE: ScotRail is looking for a proactive and analytical Workforce Planning Specialist to play a key role in shaping our long‑term workforce strategy. This is an exciting opportunity to influence how ScotRail plans, develops and sustains the capability of its people, ensuring we have the right skills in the right place at the right time. The role is responsible for maintaining ScotRail’s workforce forecasting tools, producing regular and ad‑hoc workforce reports, and supporting the delivery of workforce planning workshops. Working closely with directorates, the post‑holder will help embed effective workforce planning across the organisation, supporting managers with medium‑ and long‑term forecasting while contributing to the ongoing improvement of ScotRail’s strategic workforce planning approach. They will also lead on regular reporting to key internal and external stakeholders and collaborate with other public service providers on related initiatives. In addition, the role provides guidance on workforce planning matters, helps strengthen the links between forecasting, recruitment and training, and maintains up‑to‑date organisational charts in line with structural changes. The post‑holder will work collaboratively with the wider HR team to support HR systems and will carry out any other reasonable duties as required to ensure effective workforce planning across ScotRail. What You Bring… * Extensive experience in workforce planning, with the ability to interpret complex data and deliver actionable insights and recommendations to stakeholders. * Highly effective communicator, demonstrating excellent verbal, written, numerical, and presentation skills. * Sound analytical capability, with a proven track record of producing accurate, concise, and meaningful reports. * Skilled at building productive and collaborative relationships with stakeholders at all levels. * Adept at translating complex or sensitive information for diverse audiences, using effective influencing and stakeholder‑management skills. * Advanced user of Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel and Power BI, and experience of working with HR systems and people analytics platforms. Please note – ScotRail offers a hybrid working model which is typically 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home. Selection process Interviews are scheduled to take place w/c 2nd March, and the process will include a presentation followed by competency-based questions.
