Main duties and responsibilities:
Green Shoots is looking for someone who strives to provide high quality, inclusive and caring childcare. The right candidate will join a team in our new sister setting, help to share our ethos and good practice and work closely with children aged 2-5yrs to support their learning and development.
Responsibilities: To ensure that a caring, stimulating and inclusive environment is provided for all children, throughout the day including snack and lunch times. Where quality communication and interaction consistently takes into account individual developmental needs and enables children to reach their full potential. To take responsibility for Senco lead role and acting as Deputy when manager is off site. The right candidate will lead the room and work closely with 5 other practitioners to provide excellent care and meaningful play activities for all children including outdoor learning. They will support the team to set up and set down efficiently each day as a pack away setting, be a key member for parents and carers to communicate with and work closely with the management team to enable a safe and nurturing environment.
You will have minimum of 3 years experience working in an early years setting and will be able to communicate very well with young children. As a member of the team you will contribute to creating learning experiences designed to improve outcomes for pre-school children.

Experience: experience in early years setting as a Room lead and/or SENCO

Contracted hours and annual leave:
50 weeks per annum (pre-school is closed 13/8/26-28/8/26)
Monday- Thursday 7.30am – 5pm and Friday 8am-12.30pm (40.5hrs) (suggested day for ½ day can be changed or rotated each term)
Permanent contract with holiday allowance during term times (approx.12 days). Rest of annual leave allowance to be used during 1 week at Christmas (w/c 22/12/25) and 1 week at Easter (13/4/26) and bank holidays.
Salary: Starting rate £14.50 per hour (Pro rata wage approx. £2446.88 gross pcm Sept25-aug26)

Pre-School Senior Practitioner Job Description
· To take the responsibility of being the key person for a group of children within the setting (1-12 children). This will include:
- working closely with children, parents and carers (including home visits and regular reviews)
- being a role model for quality interaction within the setting
- planning and preparing exciting play opportunities that meet children’s individual developmental needs, that are based upon children’s interests, and that stimulates their learning and integration within the setting
- supporting all transition processes and sharing information with appropriate agencies (i.e. dual placement, learning support, safeguarding) including passing on all relevant information to the management team
· Daily room lead, supporting the team to achieve targets and manage daily tasks, implementing a curriculum programme, and supporting child welfare and development.
· To ensure that a caring, stimulating and inclusive environment is provided for all children, throughout the day including snack and lunch times. · To take an active role in storytelling, singing, makaton, physical activity, letters and sounds, science, modelling and encouraging positive social relationships, and assessing early identification of children’s needs
· To manage the children’s behaviour and routines in line with the pre-school’s policies and guidelines
· To ensure all Green Shoots policies and procedures are followed correctly, e.g. safeguarding, inclusion, health and safety, recording of accidents and the collection of children and to undertake specific tasks related to the safety and hygiene of the children and setting.
· To respect the confidentiality of information received at all times.
· To share tasks necessary as part of the general upkeep, tidiness and cleanliness of the pre-school environment and resources, and which contribute to the general well-being of the team.
· To participate in and contribute to regular staff meetings, one to ones, appraisals and training including INSET days so as to improve skills and knowledge and develop a positive attitude that enhances practice.
· To undertake any other tasks, as requested by the management team, that are necessary for the smooth running of the pre-school and the welfare of the children in its care.
· To maintain a high level of professionalism, both inside and outside the setting.
· To work with local schools and early years settings to ensure smooth and appropriate transitions for children
· To establish and maintain positive working relationships with parents/carers in a way that supports children’s learning and development and values parental involvement
· To work alongside the management team and staff team to ensure that the pre-school’s vision and values are fulfilled. To ensure the provision is of a high-quality environment to meet the needs of all children.
· To take on a lead role that supports meeting legal requirements for our setting
· To take on Key Responsibilities to support the smooth running of our setting.
· To be a positive role model for children and other staff members, with regards to communication, managing behaviour, having quality social interactions, and having a ‘can do’ attitude towards experiences and challenges
· To supervise staff, volunteers, students as appropriate, ensuring continuity of provision and that legal guidelines are met
· To participate and take an active role for reflective practice, QUEST, development projects, ACE (achievements, celebrations and Evaluations) and to the support offered my the management team
· To take on the role of Deputy when manager/assistant manager are not on site.
· To be a main key holder, with responsibility of setting up each day and setting down each day including; registers, children’s files, cupboard storage and keys, kitchen, mains power and security doors.

Pre-School Senior Practitioner- Qualifications and Experience
Essential
· Level 3 Childcare qualification
· 12 Hour paediatric first aid course.
· At least 5 years experience in an early years setting
· Training relevant to role
Knowledge
· A knowledge of child development that promotes children’s individual strengths
· Knowledge of child protection procedures.
· Knowledge of the principles and practice of inclusive early years practice
· Have an understanding of the Early years foundation stage documents
· Supporting a team to achieve positive outcomes
Skills and Ability
· Good interpersonal skills and organisational ability.
· Ability to cope with situations in a calm, considered manner, work on own initiative, lead and role model good practise
· Interest and ability to offer a wide and varied range of play and learning opportunities to children under 5 years.
Desirable
· Food hygiene
· Experience of working towards and achieving a quality assurance award.
· Experience of working with children with additional needs and SEN
· High level of commitment to quality, inclusive early years practice
· Effective team member

Physical effort
· Occasional need to pick up small children in emergencies or if a child is distressed.
· Setting up and packing away equipment. Moving and lifting heavy items
· Will need to work outside when children request it and for planned outdoor leaning and outings, this will be in all weather conditions.
