Overview
Health Protection Nurse role with Westmorland and Furness Council Health Protection Team. Permanent part-time position working 22.5 hours per week.
The postholder will support the Public Health Manager- Health Protection in discharging statutory health protection responsibilities, including development, implementation and assurance of local health protection programmes, health emergency planning, promotion of national screening and immunisation programmes and community infection prevention and control.
Responsibilities
* Assist the Public Health Manager- Health Protection in assuring that statutory health protection responsibilities are discharged for local health protection programmes, including community infection prevention and control.
* Provide infection prevention and control advice and support across Westmorland and Furness to protect health and reduce communicable diseases and Health Care Associated Infections (HCAI).
* Uphold policies and standards for Infection Prevention and Control underpinning the commissioning of safe and effective health and care services.
* Provide risk assessment support and specialist guidance for infection prevention and control measures in emergency situations.
* Support communication and delivery of plans for protecting the health of the local population (e.g., heat-health, pandemic infection).
* Actively participate in the implementation of health protection plans and programmes of work, including escalation of concerns to the Public Health Manager- Health Protection.
* Participate in the management of outbreaks of communicable disease and ensure effective control measures are implemented.
* Maintain effective relationships with key partners (NHS organisations covering Cumbria and the UK Health Security Agency).
* Deliver a comprehensive, needs-led, high-quality, evidence-based infection prevention and control service and contribute to HCAI targets.
* Provide evidence-based IPC advice to staff, patients, carers, contractors, schools, care homes and other organisations as required.
Qualifications
Essential
* Registered Nurse level 1
* Current NMC registration
* Evidence of post-qualification continuing professional development
Desirable
* Competent knowledge of common infectious diseases and their management and control
