Overview
University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust is seeking a confident and well-presented Phlebotomist to join the phlebotomy team. The role involves collecting quality blood samples from patients to support medical investigations. The successful applicant should enjoy working with people and have good communication skills. The post is based at Macclesfield District General Hospital and may require work at community centres as well as hospital sites. You should be able to work independently and as part of a team. Attention to detail, basic keyboard skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced patient environment are important.
Responsibilities
* Provide phlebotomy services across multiple locations including hospital wards, community GP centres and outreach clinics.
* Work as part of the phlebotomy team to ensure timely and accurate collection of blood samples.
* Travel to outreach/walk-in phlebotomy clinics as required; use a vehicle suitable for business use and transport of pathology samples (vehicle must be insured for class 1 business use).
* Maintain patient safety, data accuracy and adherence to defined protocols.
Location and Working Pattern
Macclesfield District General Hospital, Victoria Road, Macclesfield, SK10 3BL. Part-time pattern with potential weekend sessions; exact hours as per service needs.
Qualifications and Experience
* Essential
* NVQ/QCF Level 2 or Apprenticeship Level 2 in a related subject or GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or above (or equivalent)
* Evidence of manual dexterity and ability to work as part of a team
* Ability to work to defined protocols and seek advice where appropriate
* Basic keyboard skills and good written communication
* Understanding of the job requirements and willingness to travel to outreach clinics
* Desirable
* GCSE at grade C or above or equivalent in a science subject
* Care-related NVQ
* Previous work involving phlebotomy or healthcare experience
Other Requirements
* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check required
* Access to a vehicle for work purposes and the ability to travel to outreach sites
Salary and Conditions
Band 2, Agenda for Change; Salary £24,465 per year pro rata. Permanent, part-time role.
