Job summary
St James Surgery has a fantastic opportunity for two medical receptionists to join our friendly team on a part-time basis. One position is for 20 hours per week and the other for 26 hours per week - if you have a preference, please let us know in your application. Occasional cover for sickness and holiday may also be required. These would be based at both our main surgery in Clacton and our branch in St Osyth.
As a medical receptionist you will play an essential front-line role at the practice, providing an efficient, comprehensive secretarial and administrative support service to the practice management team.

Main duties of the job
1. Handling patient and practice queries, regarding hospital appointments and treatments, confidentially;
2. Ensuring that any requests for information from medical records are appropriately dealt with, according to practice policy, and that all subsequent charges are invoiced appropriately;
3. Arranging meetings (to include the booking of rooms) as required;
4. Designing template letters and forms for use throughout the practice, as required;
5. Maintaining the computer-based clinic system, in an accurate and secure manner;
6. Assisting with the gathering of statistics and information, when required;
7. Performing any reasonable administrative tasks, as requested by the practice manager.

9. Strong audio- and touch-typing skills;
10. Administrative experience and good organisation skills;
11. Sound knowledge of medical terminology;
12. Proficiency in the MS Office package, as well as excellent general IT skills and experience of working with a clinical system;
13. Experience in read-coding and work-flowing clinical documentation;
14. Ability to 'think on your feet';
15. Excellent communication skills and a friendly approach;
16. Understanding of the need to maintain confidentiality and data security, at all times;
17. Ability to multi-task and to work accurately under pressure;
18. Ability to work as part of a team, as well as being comfortable working independently.
19. Knowledge of Emis Web would be an advantage but full training will be provided.
