Overview
Applications are invited for a 2X Band 6 Counsellor 0.6 WTE (2x 3 days) role on a permanent contract. Work within the adult therapies service with adults who have experienced recent sexual violence and trauma. Relevant experience in assessments and counselling to adults in one-to-one therapy as well as groups and workshops is required. Experience of assessing and managing risk in mental health and safeguarding is vital, as well as experience of providing short to medium-term therapy.
The successful candidate will be registered with an accrediting body (BACP, UKCP or any other recognised body) and able to work within the modality they have trained in. Applicants from minoritised backgrounds are encouraged.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be part of a multidisciplinary team within the Havens Therapies team, responsible for providing a high quality specialist therapeutic service to adults who have experienced sexual violence. Responsibilities include managing caseloads and waitlists, safeguarding, report and letter writing, and collection of outcome measures and activity. The post holder will help develop the Havens Therapies service and foster strong inter-agency relationships, working with psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists, doctors, nurses and Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVAs). The post holder will advise the Senior Psychotherapist and the Head of the Havens Psychology and Counselling service on service delivery. There is a requirement to work on a Tuesday (therapies team meetings day) and to work at least one evening per week (up to 20:00) and occasional Saturdays. Roles involve online and face-to-face on-site work.

Job responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities:
* Assess clients requesting/referred for counselling and decide on an appropriate contract of time-limited counselling or refer to other disciplines or specialist services as necessary.
* Manage a caseload by providing weekly counselling sessions to Haven clients with an agreed contract.
* Exercise full responsibility and autonomy for treatment and discharge, ensure appropriate assessment and interventions, and communicate with referral agents and others involved in the client’s care (e.g., Metropolitan Police and Crown Prosecution Service) when appropriate.
* Provide a non-judgemental, confidential environment and maintain the integrity of the counsellor/client relationship; be a member of a professional body (e.g., BACP, UKCP) and adhere to their Code of Ethics.
* Undertake risk identification and management for relevant clients and provide relevant advice to the clinical team.
* Communicate assessment and treatment plans clearly and monitor progress.
* Attend regular clinical supervision.
* Offer specialist advice and training on the psychological impact of rape and sexual assault to Havens staff and other professionals.
* Liaise with therapies team and the multidisciplinary Haven team.
* Participate in staff appraisal, managerial supervision, team meetings and CPD.
Administrative Responsibilities:
* Maintain high standards of clinical record keeping, report writing and professional governance in line with the relevant professional body and Trust policies.
* Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Code of Conduct and Trust policy.
* Maintain accurate statistics and updates in the client’s medical record.
* Contribute to maintaining and updating Haven protocols; develop and update resources for voluntary and statutory agencies in the field of rape and sexual assault.
* Contribute to health education and client information leaflets related to rape and sexual assault and the Havens’ work.

Essential
Education and Qualifications
* Recognised professional counselling qualification, minimum Graduate level
* Accredited or eligible for accreditation with a relevant professional organisation (e.g., BACP, UKCP)
Knowledge and Experience
* Experience of working with clients who have experienced violence and trauma
* Understanding of confidentiality and the psychological effects of trauma
Desirable
* Supervision qualification; NHS counselling experience; teaching, training and/or clinical supervision experience; experience of counselling in different cultural contexts; publication record; experience of group therapy and sexual health; good knowledge of STIs
Skills and Competencies
