Children’s Oncology Outreach Nurse

Are you a compassionate, skilled nurse with a passion for supporting children and young people living with cancer?

We are looking for a dedicated Children's Oncology Outreach Nurse with excellent communication skills to join our specialist GWH team, providing treatment, monitoring and high‑quality care and support to children, young people, and their families throughout their cancer journey – from hospital to homes, schools, and local communities.

This is a 22.5 hour position working Monday, Tuesday and Thursday with a degree of flexibility to cover service need.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work alongside and support the Lead Children’s Oncology Outreach Nurse as part of the wider multi‑disciplinary team to provide an effective and supportive service to children and young people with cancer, their families and carers, in both hospital and community settings.

They will act as a key worker providing clinical guidance and expert knowledge in assessing, implementing and evaluating the needs of this patient group. They will provide specialist clinical skills, teaching, education, psychosocial support and leadership to enable families, carers and other professionals, in all settings, to manage the child's needs.

They will provide the support required to the Children’s Unit in order for high‑quality care to be delivered to children with cancer following local, regional and national guidelines.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Degree supplemented by training and/or combination of additional post registration/postgraduate specialist training, experience and/or short course, CPD or equivalent
* Extensive experience of working within a service providing care for children and young people with cancer
* Evidence of ongoing relevant professional development
* Post‑registration qualification in paediatric oncology (or working towards)


Experience

* Significant level of specialist knowledge and experience in children's oncology
* Teaching and mentoring staff
* Palliative care management
* Experience working in the community
* Caseload management
* Participation in audit


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

Salary

£39,959 to £48,117 a year per annum pro rata
