Overview

Join to apply for the Network Service Operator role at Scottish Water

Join our Field Response team in the Stirling and Falkirk Area. As an NSO you’ll help our teams make sure Scotland has a constant supply of safe, high-quality water.

What You’ll Do

Problem-solver extraordinaire, you’ll make quick, accurate work of customer enquiries and network operations – helping fix any water supply problems. That might include turning your hand to valve shut-offs, identifying bursts, and more.

No two days are quite the same. You will work in a fast-paced, customer-centric environment that is dynamic and rewarding. You’ll also ensure tasks are completed safely, engage with internal stakeholders to resolve complex customer or network issues, and provide excellent service to our customers.

You’ll collect relevant data, report on customer issues and promote follow-on work to recover service issues, technical requirements, GIS drawing updates, and so on. You’ll know your byelaws from your codes of practice, so you can explain what’s what to customers.

Occasionally you’ll carry out sampling on new mains, bursts, or customer complaints to make sure every last drop is compliant with regulatory requirements.

What You’ll Bring

You’ll know how the water network operates – bringing knowledge of DOMS policies, reviewing risk assessment method statements, hygiene code, and access and transfer certificates.

You’ll always have your health and safety hat on to keep the team and customers safe. Top-notch communication skills are essential too – our customers will turn to you for the information they need.

You’ll need a valid driving licence, but we’ll provide the wheels. As part of the team, you’ll take your turn on the standby rota for out-of-hours work too.

Looking out for you

While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.

There is a requirement to participate on an out-of-hours standby rota. You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). You can buy up to 5 more days if you need a little extra time. You can also take time off to volunteer in your community.

We have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. We embrace flexible working. For your future, there’s our pension and life assurance. As for extras, you can expect an annual company bonus and access to SW Splash – rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.

The not-so-small print

This role will be a Grade 5. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £32,650. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £38,610.

If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be – we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on 15th of September 2025.

Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening (e.g., referencing, criminal record checks, license checks). These checks are conducted on our behalf by a third party. We’ll ask your permission before starting these checks.

A few final things worth knowing…

Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway. We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve, so don’t rule yourself out.

Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. We’re committed to accessibility and flexibility for candidates with disabilities or neurodiverse conditions. We’re also aware that life events can affect applicants, so please don’t be afraid to ask for adjustments.

As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, all employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you’ll need to commit to moving within your first three months.

Finally, candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database automatically.

We’re here to help. Ask us anything at SWRecruitment@ScottishWater.co.uk
