As a Senior Data Scientist, you will be part of our newly formed cross-functional squads that consist of people from different job functions across Rightmove including Machine Learning Engineers, Data Scientists, Software Developers, Machine Learning Ops Engineers, and a Product Owner. The squads are collaborative, ambitious, and determined teams that work with a high degree of autonomy and velocity, and value innovation and impact. They sit within the Data and Analytics Team, which is part of our Product Development team and plays a pivotal role in delivering exciting solutions. Last year Rightmove launched a project called RAID (Rightmove AI Discovery) which was an opportunity to successfully explore, experiment and innovate with generative AI. The outputs from RAID, combined with the prioritised Hackathon ideas have contributed to our future product roadmaps and we are looking for a Senior Data Scientist who is proficient in designing and developing advanced AI solutions to solve diverse problems and improve Rightmove’s experience for the consumer and estate agents. The successful candidate will be a motivated expert who can help Rightmove advance our AI solution offerings. You will evaluate industry trends, identify, and develop models and adoption opportunities, define, and validate model architecture in early phases of AI solution development and collaborate across squads and Rightmove teams. You will have an incredible amount of ownership, autonomy, and impact. The Team has continuously grown over the past 18 months, and we continue to invest in enriching our data and data science capabilities to deliver effective and impactive solutions in an industry that is exciting, interesting, relevant, and challenging. A typical week as a Senior Data Scientist might involve • Design, prototype, implement, evaluate, and optimise generative AI technologies and machine learning algorithms to solve interesting and complex business problems • Facilitate optimal scaling and adoption of generative AI, including designing and developing at scale generative AI system architectures, prompt engine development, creating optimal model selection strategy, continuous monitoring and evaluation mechanisms • Exploring and promoting use of generative AI in Rightmove’s portfolio of applications and products • Influence strategic decisions around Rightmove’s AI offering • Acting as a key scientific resource in full-cycle development • Machine learning monitoring in production using MLOps practices • Play a strategic role formulating new ideas for leveraging Rightmove’s vast amount of data, modelling complex discovery insights and identifying business opportunities • Collaborate with senior management and key stakeholders in identifying and prioritising actionable, impactful insights across a variety of core business fronts, driving informed decision-making across the business and, hence, enhancing Rightmove’s capability to achieve goals and objectives • Oversee the activities of data scientist(s) ensuring proper execution of their duties and providing mentorship and guidance, whilst simultaneously guaranteeing integrity, accuracy, and adequacy • Provide support to various data projects and/or OKRs such as contributing to the exciting data engineering development of the next generation data platform – Data Hive • Provide advanced expertise on statistical and mathematical concepts for the broader Data & Analytics Team We’re looking for someone who • Has relevant and impactful experience of developing and deploying both traditional machine learning and large language models • Can help build organisational capabilities around generative AI • Based on your understanding of generative AI tools and business requirements, will help develop tools and services to evaluate and control generative AI model quality across Rightmove • Has a passion to learn more and go deep in machine learning and generative AI concepts • Can conduct training sessions, present work to technical and non-technical peers, build knowledge on business priorities / strategic goals and leverage this knowledge whilst building requirements and solutions • Will maintain best practices for model development including deployment process, documentation, and coding standards • Can confidently contribute to technical and product discussions and share knowledge and ideas with colleagues across the company • Has substantial experience working within cross functional teams and collaborating across teams • Is open to constructive feedback and is both a leading individual and team contributor • Has exceptional communication skills, who collaborates and delivers results as they work • Can troubleshoot problem areas and investigate a solution that will fix the issue. • Can look at the ‘big picture’ and understand where the value is for the business. • Is curious and has a creative mind coupled with key critical thinking skills • Has the ability to challenge and question ideas, openly and honestly, whilst providing solutions and options We would love someone to have any of the following • A Batchelors degree, MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Computational Statistics, Machine Learning or related STEM field • Experience with Generative AI and comfortable working in a dynamic environment where GenAI is evolving as a key offering • 5 years of experience as a data scientist, within a fast-paced complex business setting using machine learning, deep learning and natural language processing algorithms from initial data and model selection, through to results evaluation and optimisation • Experience using generative model libraries such as generative adversarial networks and variational autoencoders and pre-trained models such as OpenAI’s GPT models, StyleGan and BigGan • Professional experience in SQL and Python beyond scripting; knowledge of basic paradigms (e.g. Object-orientated programming), related tools (e.g. Git) and core libraries and deep learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, Tensorflow, Keras); cloud technologies, particularly GCP; Big data processing frameworks (e.g. PySpark) • Management experience of at least 1 data scientist • Impact driven and eager to have a real impact on the business, product, users and very importantly your colleagues as well • Be commercially minded and can put numbers into a business perspective with experience of working in a fast-paced environment to drive growth • Self-starter mindset – you can proactively identify issues and opportunities and tackle them without being told to do so • Strong interpersonal skills and are comfortable working with multiple stakeholders
