Buyer / Graduate Opportunity Procurement - Oldham
Park Cakes is a c£250 million business which supplies cake and desserts to service the own brands of major retailers, there are three sites based in the North West at Heywood, Oldham and Bolton.
Our products include, high end celebration cake products, slab cakes and mainstream desserts, we mostly supply Marks & Spencer's although we also supply other major retailers.
This is a career opportunity for a Graduate/recent graduate to join our Procurement function to learn and grow into the role of a Buyer.
We spend over £100 million across more than 400 ingredients a year and £20 million on packaging so you'll have plenty of scope.
Example Job Role/ Accountabilities
Working in a small team you will be directly responsible to the Procurement Director, within 18 months to 2 years we would expect you to be responsible for your own portfolio of buying ingredients so you must be confident at analysing data and taking the lead in decision making.
We would also expect you to study for professional procurement qualifications (CIPS within 3 to 5 years).
Typically, in your first 12 months you will:
* Learn about our business in order to understand how Procurement interacts and effects our business
* Gain knowledge about the range of ingredients we buy and the factors that affect the quantities we buy and prices within the market
* Research suppliers and track data to support other buyers and the Procurement Director
* Learn and start to support buying negotiations
* Analyse markets for ingredients/packaging pricing, pricing fluctuations and understand trends
* Become familiar with key customers and have the opportunity to attend supplier meetings
* Learn about our ethically based sourcing and assist in providing data
* Support the Procurement Director with a number of projects
Ideal Candidate Attributes:
Candidates must have a positive presence and be confident at presenting. We are looking for an extrovert who wants a career focused on liaising with others, analysing data and decision making in pressurised situations. In addition, you ideally possess/demonstrate:
* A business degree or equivalent and ideally 6 months plus work experience
* Comfortable working with numerical information and pricing
* A proactive, highly organised approach
* Computer literate in Microsoft packages, particularly excel
* Able to work individually or as part of a team with the ability to challenge and lead others
* Exceptional communication, interpersonal and rapport building abilities
* Able to meet deadlines
* Flexible approach to work
* A clean driving license
* Candidates must have the right to work in the UK no sponsorship is available
Hours: Hours for these positions are typically 8.30am - 5pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am to 4pm on a Friday but flexibility across shifts is required. You'll need to work Monday to Friday on site, although you need to be flexible to travel to meet customers.
Package: £26k - £30k per annum depending on experience plus benefits including Contributory pension scheme, Retailer Discount Scheme, Sponsorship for CIPS qualifications
