Skilled Mechanical Fitter
Location: Southampton
Salary: £32,000 – £34,000 per annum + benefits
Due to ongoing expansion, our client, a well-established precision manufacturing business based in Southampton, is looking to recruit a Skilled Mechanical Fitter to support its production operations.
This is a practical, workshop-based role offering a broad range of manual engineering activities within a quality-driven manufacturing environment. The position would suit an experienced engineer who enjoys varied hands-on work and working to detailed technical standards.
The Role
The Skilled Mechanical Fitter will carry out manual machining, fitting and assembly tasks using conventional workshop equipment. Working from engineering drawings and inspection criteria, the role involves producing and assembling small, high-precision components and assemblies, including work in a controlled cleanroom environment.
The role requires strong bench skills, attention to detail and the ability to work accurately to defined procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Duties may include, but are not limited to:

Manual machining using conventional milling machines and lathes
*
Manufacture of precision components in line with engineering drawings
*
Operation of bending and forming machinery
*
Jig fitting and skilled hand assembly of components and sub-assemblies
*
Swaging, flanging and flaring of tubular components
*
Carrying out pressure-related treatment processes where required
*
Manufacture and assembly of small manifolds and associated parts, including soldering operations
*
Maintaining component cleanliness within a cleanroom environment
*
Operation of a range of workshop machinery and equipment
*
Completing additional tasks as reasonably assigned by supervision
Candidate Requirements
Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

The ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings
*
Competence using manual milling machines and lathes
*
Strong engineering hand skills and manual fitting experience
*
Previous experience in a skilled mechanical or manufacturing role
*
Completion of formal engineering training or equivalent
*
Eligibility to live and work in the UK
Desirable Experience
The following would be beneficial but not essential:

Experience working with bent or formed tubular components
*
Completion of a recognised engineering apprenticeship
*
HNC, HND or Degree-level qualification in an engineering discipline
