Full-Time SEN Teaching Assistant Opportunity – Permanent Position

A specialist alternative provision in Glastonbury is seeking a compassionate and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join their committed team on a full-time permanent basis from September 2026.
About the Provision
This unique setting supports pupils aged 14 to 16 who have experienced barriers within mainstream education.
Many learners have experienced trauma, social and emotional challenges, disrupted education or exclusion.
The school focuses heavily on rebuilding confidence, promoting emotional wellbeing and helping students achieve realistic and meaningful outcomes.
With smaller groups, strong pastoral systems and a relationship-led approach, staff are given the opportunity to genuinely influence a young person’s future.
The Role
You will work closely alongside teachers and pastoral teams to provide classroom support, emotional guidance and practical encouragement to pupils who require patience, consistency and understanding.
The position involves helping learners remain engaged during lessons, promoting emotional regulation, encouraging positive interactions and supporting pupils with both academic and personal development.
Staff work collaboratively to create a calm, structured and nurturing atmosphere where every learner feels respected and understood.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful applicant will ideally have previous experience supporting young people, vulnerable learners or individuals with additional needs.
You should be calm under pressure, adaptable, emotionally resilient and passionate about helping students overcome barriers to education.
A good understanding of trauma-informed practice, behaviour support strategies and relationship-based learning would be highly beneficial.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team are equally important.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
