Job Title: Data Centre Shift Leader (Critical Environment)

Salary: £60,000 + Benefits
Shift Pattern: 4 Days / 4 Off / 4 Nights / 6 Off (Repeat)
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Centre Shift Leader to join a high-performing team at a critical data centre facility in Essex. This is a hands-on leadership role, responsible for maintaining the integrity, availability, and performance of all critical infrastructure systems within a 24/7 environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead and supervise shift engineering teams to ensure safe and efficient operation of all critical systems (electrical, mechanical, and HVAC)
2. Act as the primary point of contact during shifts for all technical and operational issues
3. Ensure compliance with all health & safety procedures and site-specific protocols
4. Authorise and manage permits to work, including high-risk activities
5. Monitor and respond to alarms via BMS and other monitoring systems
6. Carry out and oversee planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive works
7. Support incident management, including root cause analysis and reporting
8. Maintain accurate logs, reports, and handover documentation
9. Ensure SLA and KPI targets are consistently met or exceeded
Essential Requirements
10. HVAP (High Voltage Authorised Person) certification (mandatory)
11. Level 2 & Level 3 Electrical Installations qualifications
12. 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification
13. Proven experience working in a critical environment (data centres, hospitals, or similar)
14. Strong leadership and decision-making skills
15. Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Desirable Skills
16. Experience with BMS and SCADA systems
17. Knowledge of UPS systems, generators, and critical cooling systems
18. Previous supervisory or team leadership experience within a data centre
