Overview
We are offering an exciting Higher Apprenticeship opportunity for a motivated individual with A-levels to join our Cargo Research Team as a Research and Development Support Technician Apprentice. You will work hands-on in our X-ray Imaging Laboratory, supporting the development and testing of advanced imaging systems. This role combines practical experience with academic study, leading to a nationally recognized higher qualification in engineering or mechatronics.
Responsibilities
* Assist in the assembly, integration, and testing of electromechanical systems and X-ray imaging hardware.
* Operate and configure software tools for system control and data acquisition (training provided).
* Support verification and validation testing of prototypes and subsystems.
* Capture, organize, and assist in the analysis of experimental data.
* Help troubleshoot hardware issues and contribute to root cause investigations.
* Maintain lab equipment and ensure a safe, organized working environment.
* Contribute to technical documentation, including test procedures and reports.
* Participate in technical demonstrations and training sessions for internal and external stakeholders.
* Attend college or training provider sessions as part of the apprenticeship program and complete all coursework and assessments.
Qualifications
* A-levels (or equivalent) in STEM subjects such as Physics, Maths, Electronics, or Computer Science.
* A strong interest in engineering, technology, or applied science.
* Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
* Willingness to learn and take on new challenges in a hands-on environment.
* Eligibility to enrol in a Level 4 or 5 Higher Apprenticeship program
Desirable Skills
* Some experience with tools, electronics kits, or mechanical projects (e.g., school, personal, or work experience).
* Familiarity with basic programming or data analysis tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Excel).
* Strong communication and teamwork skills.
* Basic understanding of electrical or mechanical systems
