Laboratory Technician - Avantor, Reading (Permanent, Full-Time)
Avantor is seeking a dedicatedLaboratory Technician, named a "Bonding Materials Scientist"to join our team on apermanent, full-time basisat ourReading site.
About The Role
As a Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible forBonded Silica batch production & testing, which includes:
* Conducting synthesis reactions to bond various stationary phases onto different media - a process that can take up to 8 days.
* Assembling chromatography columns, performing tests, and reporting results and observations to the Manager for batch approval.
* Utilizing safety and quality systems to enhance productivity, efficiency, and batch pass rates.
The Team
You'll be part of a close-knit team of three, working in a collaborative environment, where a Professor of Silica Science at the Open University works under the same manager. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team with over30 years of expertisein chromatography. Our Reading site is a market leader in the development, manufacture, and supply of high-quality chromatography products, serving both UK and international markets.
What We're Looking For
Essential
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
* A chemistry-based degree or equivalent qualification.
* Minimum of 2 years' experience working in a laboratory environment.
* Strong computer skills, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
* Excellent organisational and communication skills (both written and verbal).
* High attention to detail.
* A punctual, efficient, and collaborative team player.
Desirable (training Will Be Provided)
* Experience performing chemical reactions and/or HPLC in an industrial setting.
* Familiarity with HPLC/UHPLC systems and associated CDS (e.g., OpenLab).
* Experience in manufacturing HPLC columns.
How You'll Thrive and Make an Impact
* Support the manufacture of silica batches through chemical reactions ('Silica Bonding') and related tasks.
* Apply filtration and distillation techniques to silica slurries.
* Screen produced materials, complete report templates, and document observations.
* Use systems such as SAP, Excel, OpenLab, and ChromPerfect.
* Follow ETQ-based quality systems, SOPs, and standard working practices.
* Participate in investigations of non-conformities and CAPAs when required.
* Always adhere strictly to health and safety protocols and report any concerns immediately.
* Involvement in departmental R&D projects, and scaling up of production materials as well as New Product Introductions.
