Job Description
Join the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Engineering team and work directly on the UK’s most groundbreaking T&D project – the National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade. As a Principal Overhead Line Engineer, you will lead technically challenging OHL design projects, engage with clients, and support the entire project life cycle.
Responsibilities
* Provide technical support and lead the team in delivering overhead line design on complex multi‑discipline projects.
* Offer technical expertise in bids and proposals and represent the company in client meetings as Principal Engineer.
* Take full responsibility for project scope and technical delivery of overhead line works.
* Provide expert technical evaluations and offer problem‑solving solutions to different team members.
* Support in writing proposals and outlining all project details, including the timeline, resources, budget, objectives, and goals.
* Provide technical support throughout project implementation, statutory planning, and participation in public consultation events.
* Lead design activities related to the overhead line, including PLS‑CADD modelling, line routing, structural analysis, sag‑tension calculations, conductor selection, and clearance reports.
* Undertake feasibility studies, conduct thermal rating assessments, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
* Conduct studies to identify a technically preferred solution/layout to present to the client.
* Check and review engineering deliverables such as designs, reports, proposals, presentations, and drawing packages.
* Perform internal reviews and quality checks of engineering drawings and calculations.

Qualifications
* Professionally qualified CEng Chartered Engineer with a recognised electrical engineering institution (e.g., the IET).
* A bachelor’s degree in engineering or an equivalent technical discipline.
* Experience delivering projects for transmission system operators such as National Grid, SSE, and SPT in line with each operator’s standards.
* Project experience in overhead line engineering up to 400kV.
* Proven client relationship management and business development skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
