Job Title: Scientific & Regulatory Policy Manager - Maternity Cover Reports to: Director General Location: Hybrid working between the BSNA office in Holborn, London, and home Job type: Full time 12-month fixed term contact Salary: Commensurate with experience Job Purpose: To lead BSNA activities in the infant nutrition and the parenteral nutrition sectors to promote, defend and represent the interests of BSNA members. Closing Date: 24 June 2025 About BSNA: The British Specialist Nutrition Association (BSNA) is the lead voice for people’s access to infant nutrition, medical foods, enteral products, parenteral nutrition and parenteral medicines from infancy through to older age. Our members produce infant formula, follow-on formula, young child formula, complementary weaning foods, medical foods for diagnosed disorders and medical conditions, parenteral nutrition and provide aseptic compounding services for chemotherapy, antibiotics and Central Intravenous Additive Services (CIVAS). We work collaboratively to create a supportive operating environment for members with the aim of delivering access, sustainability and a reputation for our sectors which reflects their value. To find out more about BSNA, visit our website at www.bsna.co.uk We are currently recruiting for a Scientific and Regulatory Policy Manager to join our team. This role will support the work of the infant nutrition sector. The role of the Scientific and Regulatory Policy Manager is integral to BSNA’s activities in the infant sector and includes the following responsibilities: Strategic To promote, defend and represent the interests of BSNA members that operate within the UK specialist nutrition and parenteral medicines sectors. To ensure that BSNA’s views are understood by healthcare professionals, government and relevant government bodies, consumer groups, SNE (Specialised Nutrition Europe) and other European bodies, along with ISDI (International Special Dietary Foods Industries), so that members interests are understood and represented in each of these areas. To support the Director General in running meetings and developing of the strategic direction of the Infant Nutrition Executive. To co-ordinate the work of the Infant Nutrition Working Group by initiating and managing the work of the group. To coordinate the Food Safety Working Group by initiating and managing the work of the group. To work with the Director General, BSNA Team and Chairs of the member groups to provide proactive input to help the association meet its objectives. Operational To support the Director General in the running of the Infant Nutrition Executive – in collaboration with the Public Affairs Manager – including drafting agendas and minutes, attending meetings, presenting items and undertaking agreed actions. To initiate and manage the work of the Infant Nutrition Working Group - including drafting agendas and minutes, attending meetings, presenting items, and undertaking agreed actions. To interpret reports and provide regulatory expertise and advice to members accordingly. To stay informed & horizon scan the regulatory, scientific, and legislative developments, in conjunction with the Public Affairs Manager and communicate all relevant information to member companies and external organisations. To lead on all relevant food safety activity relating to the sectors. To build relationships with key stakeholders including the Food Standards Agency (FSA), Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) & Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID). To communicate all relevant information to member companies and external organisations To participate in relevant SNE (Specialised Nutrition Europe) and ISDI (International Special Dietary Foods Industries) Working Groups and inform members of developments and actions accordingly. To regularly liaise with members and wider BSNA Team. To draft written submissions to relevant regulatory or technical consultations relevant to Executive or Working Group objectives. To organise BSNA events including exhibiting at conferences, webinars and workshops relevant to Executive or Working Group objectives. To contribute to the development and implementation of BSNA external and internal communications, including the association’s website and social media, and produce material or content in collaboration with the Public Affairs Manager, and Executive Assistant. To represent the BSNA at external meetings and related stakeholder discussions. To undertake administrative and other appropriate duties as assigned by the Director General to ensure the efficient operation of the BSNA Team and Association. Requirements Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Science or Biomedical Sciences Degree or equivalent Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a nutrition, regulatory or policy-related role Familiarity and experience of working with legislation in the nutrition and/or food and drink sectors Experience of interpreting and communicating scientific data to varying audiences/stakeholders Working Relationships To report to the Director General and to work with the Public Affairs Manager, Medical Nutrition Manager, Scientific and Regulatory Policy Executive, Executive Assistant, Associations and Industry Representatives as well as Government, FSA and other bodies to achieve objectives.
