Company Overview

Alloyed is a venture-funded company consisting of more than 150 world-class metallurgists, mechanical/design engineers, and software developers working across offices in the UK, Japan, and Seattle. We specialize in developing advanced metal components for industries including consumer electronics, AR/VR, liquid cooling systems, and additive manufacturing (AM) applications. Our proprietary software packages leverage advanced machine learning and physical modelling to create innovative alloys, optimize processing techniques, and design high-performance, 3D-printed components.
Role Overview

Alloyed is looking for an experienced Computational Design Engineer with strong expertise in parametric and computational design to support our innovative product development team. You will be responsible for designing optimized structural and thermal components, tailored specifically for additive manufacturing processes, and driving solutions from concept generation through to detailed CAD designs and final production. Collaboration with simulation, manufacturing, and process engineers will be essential to ensure design feasibility and performance.

Location: Abingdon Business Park, Abingdon

Responsibilities
* Design and engineer complex, high-performance components optimised for additive manufacturing.
* Develop advanced parametric and computational models utilizing tools such as Rhino and Grasshopper, and nTop.
* Propose rapid and innovative design concepts addressing specific customer requirements.
* Refine and finalize designs through detailed CAD modelling and iterative optimization.
* Collaborate closely with manufacturing, simulation, and process engineers to ensure designs meet DFM and performance criteria.
* Maintain meticulous records of design iterations, ensuring quality and consistency.
* Continuously enhance internal design methodologies, algorithms, and processes.
Essential
* Expertise designing and engineering complex, high-performance components.
* Proficient with surface modelling.
* Experience developing parametric and computational design models utilizing tools such as Rhino and Grasshopper, and nTop.
* Ability to propose rapid and innovative design concepts addressing specific customer requirements.
* Good understanding of mechanical product assemblies.
* Ability to propose improved and part-consolidated assemblies. Ability to integrate optimised parts into customer assemblies – following and adhering to the customer requirements.
* Expertise refining and finalising designs through detailed CAD modelling and iterative optimization.
* Collaborates closely with manufacturing, simulation, and process engineers to ensure designs meet DFM and performance criteria.
* Maintains meticulous records of design iterations, ensuring quality and consistency.
* Continuously enhances internal design methodologies, algorithms, and processes.
Desirable
* Experience with multiple CAD platforms (Rhino, Autodesk Fusion360, SolidWorks, etc.)
* Expertise designing and engineering complex, high-performance components for additive manufacturing.
* Proficient using and developing complex workflows in nTop.
* Experience with topology optimization modelling and generative design tools.
* Familiarity with structural, thermal, or fluid flow simulation tools (ANSYS, COMSOL, Abaqus, etc.).
* Knowledge of thermal management and liquid cooling system design.
* Knowledge of structural design for drop.
* Knowledge of safety-factor driven design.
* Understanding of consumer electronics and AR/VR industry-specific design challenges.
* Previous experience within an engineering consultancy or product development environment.
* Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computational Design, Industrial Design, Mathematics, or a related field.
