I am currently partnered with a life science company based in South Yorkshire that is developing next-generation benchtop imaging equipment designed to transform molecular analytics. Their mission is to make high-resolution molecular imaging accessible and impactful across life sciences and pharmaceutical research.
Role Overview:
The company is seeking a PhD-level Assay Scientist with at least 5 years of experience in assay development to lead the design, development, and optimization of assays for integration with benchtop imaging platforms. This position is ideal for a hands-on scientist with strong expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry, or biophysics who excels at developing and validating robust, scalable imaging-based assays.
* Key Responsibilities:
Assay Development & Optimization:
* Design, develop, and optimize assays compatible with benchtop molecular imaging systems.
* Validate assay performance, including sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility.
* Troubleshoot and refine experimental workflows to achieve consistent high-quality results.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
* Work closely with Engineering, Product Management, and Manufacturing teams to translate assays into commercially viable products.
* Prepare technical documentation such as protocols, SOPs, and validation reports.
Innovation & Improvement:
* Stay current with emerging trends in fluorescence imaging, molecular detection, and assay design.
* Contribute to the development of new assay formats and support ongoing product innovation.
Requirements:
* PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biophysics, or a related field.
* Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in assay development.
* Proven expertise with imaging-based, fluorescence-based, or high-sensitivity detection assays.
* Strong troubleshooting and optimization skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Experience:
* Experience in transferring assays from R&D to manufacturing or productization.
* Familiarity with regulated environments (e.g., GLP, ISO 13485).
* Understanding of pharmaceutical R&D, biomolecular screening, or imaging-based workflows.
