Your new role
As Legal Manager, you will provide expert legal and procedural guidance across the organisation’splaints and disciplinary framework. You will act as a key advisor to panels and senior colleagues, ensuring that cases are managed with fairness, consistency, andpliance. This is a central, influential role supporting high‑quality decision making and safeguarding the integrity of the organisation’sernance.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Providing legal and procedural advice to Panels and theplaints Team in line with regulatory frameworks.
2. Advising on matters related to law, evidence, human rights, equality, and the principles of natural justice.
3. Delivering clear procedural advice during hearings and panel meetings.
4. Reviewingplaints and assessing remit and potential breaches of professional standards.
5. Overseeing casework quality, accuracy andpliance with internal policies and external accreditation requirements.
6. Drafting and reviewing determinations, rmendations and legally robust oue letters.
7. Collaborating with internal and external individuals to support case preparation, including evidence management and witness coordination
8. Line managing members of theplaints Team.
9. Contributing to continuous improvement, policy development and organisationalernance.
10. Delivering legal and regulatory training to panel members and staff.
11. Ensuringpliance with data protection, confidentiality, safeguarding and equality legislation.
What you'll need to succeed
12. Qualification as a Solicitor, Barrister, Advocate or Chartered Legal Executive (FCILEx) in the UK.
13. Proven experience in regulatory, disciplinary, tribunal or court processes, includingplaints handling or professional misconduct investigations.
14. Strong leadership and staff management experience.
15. Excellent legal drafting, analytical and writtenmunication skills.
16. A strong understanding of data protection, confidentiality and professional ethics.
17. Knowledge of human rights, equality and safeguarding principles in a regulatory setting.
18. Strong IT literacy, including Microsoft 365.
19. Ability to work collaboratively and constructively within a multidisciplinary team.
20. 3–5+ years PQE desirable, although candidates with less PQE and significant pre‑qualification regulatory experience are wee.
Desirable:
21. Working with professional regulators ( HCPC, GMC, NMC) or PSA‑accredited registers.
22. Background within psychotherapy, counselling, mental health or wider healthcare settings.
