The Role
* Take ownership of the chart of accounts and ensure it meets internal and external reporting needs, with appropriate system controls in place.
* Provide training, guidance, and system documentation to finance and business colleagues, ensuring processes are efficient and aligned with best practices.
* Lead on continuous improvement and innovation, exploring new functionality, collaborating with other Forces, and embedding process efficiencies.
* Support the finance team at month-end and year-end, ensuring ledger closes are completed in line with timetables.
* Work closely with the Head of Business Systems, ICT teams, and external suppliers to align strategies, support upgrades, and resolve issues quickly.
* Stay up to date with accounting standards, public sector financial regulations, and emerging systems knowledge to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
About You
We are looking for someone with:
* A recognised accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent).
* Strong knowledge of accounting systems, getting the best of systems, creating reports, and scoping budgeting/reporting tools.
* A proven track record in process improvement
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, software suppliers, and system stakeholders.
* Experience in leading change, training and coaching colleagues, and embedding a culture of continuous improvement.
* Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to influence and deliver results.
