Consultant Gastroenterologist
Permanent | Full-time | No GIM on-call commitment
A rare opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Gastroenterologist to join a growing specialist medical service, supporting the local community across the island.
This is a particularly attractive post for someone looking for more autonomy, better work-life balance and the opportunity to help shape a developing gastroenterology service without the pressures of a traditional NHS GIM on-call rota.
The service has seen increased demand and is undergoing significant expansion, moving from a combined GIM/gastroenterology model to a dedicated gastroenterology service. You would join an established consultant team and be supported by a nurse endoscopist, endoscopy nurses and IBD specialist nursing support.
The role
You will provide high-quality gastroenterology care across inpatient and outpatient settings, working closely with colleagues to develop and improve on-island services.
The post includes:
* General gastroenterology outpatient clinics
* Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy
* Input into GI MDTs, including cancer and complex non-malignant cases
* Supporting the development of local pathways, protocols and services
* Working collaboratively with tertiary centres where required
* Opportunities to develop subspecialty interests and private practice
There is no formal GIM on-call commitment, and the post is structured as a minimum 10 PA role, with SPA time included.

* No GIM on-call rota
* Opportunity to develop integrated private practice
* Full relocation support
* Private health insurance for you and your family
* Pension scheme with employer contribution
* Life assurance and income protection
* GMC and BMA subscription cover
* Medical indemnity cover
* Free parking
* 35 days annual leave
* 10 days funded study leave
* Up to 10 days fully funded off-island attachment
* Local flat-rate income tax of 20%
Who would this suit?
This would suit a Consultant Gastroenterologist who is looking for a role with more influence, less bureaucracy and the chance to make a visible impact within a close-knit island healthcare system.
You will need to be on the GMC Specialist Register for Gastroenterology, or be within six months of CCT at interview. GIM accreditation would be desirable but is not essential for the post. ERCP experience would also be helpful, but it is not a requirement.
