Overview
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic individual to join the Blood Sciences Department at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. We are looking to strengthen our departments and you will be part of the Central Specimen Reception team that contributes to the provision of a safe, effective and efficient Blood Science service for NHS Forth Valley. Blood Sciences as a whole are busy, well equipped departments providing Clinical Chemistry and Haematology support to the Acute Hospital, Community Hospitals and General Practice in Forth Valley. The Haematology department is UKAS Accredited and Chemistry is working towards this.
Responsibilities
* Provide line management, supervision and support to over 18 Healthcare Scientist support workers.
* Collaborate with the senior Biomedical Scientist (BMS) team to improve sample workflow.
* Devising staff rotas, conducting Personal Development Reviews (PDR), delivering and maintaining staff training and competency.
* Perform general specimen reception duties, including managing workflow.
* Support laboratory managers, BMS team and support staff to ensure accurate results.
Working Hours
The post will involve working a combination of day shifts (up to 17:00) and backshifts (up to 20:00) routinely after a period of training. Weekend and public holiday working will be required to meet service requirements.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Educated to at least SVQ/NVQ Level 3 and/or have considerable experience in a supervisory or training role.
* Excellent typing/keyboard skills and IT literate.
* Previous experience in a medical laboratory desirable.
* Successful completion of a Level 2 Disclosure Scotland check.
