Project Manager – Multi-Utility Infrastructure
Job Summary
Manage multi-utility infrastructure projects, ensuring delivery in accordance with client requirements, industry standards, and agreed performance targets. Work collaboratively with developers, internal teams, operatives, subcontractors, utility providers, and other stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
Responsible for project planning, stakeholder communication, quality assurance, health and safety compliance, environmental management, contract administration, cost control, and overall project profitability.
Principal Responsibilities
Health & Safety
- Maintain overall responsibility for health and safety across all assigned projects.
- Conduct regular site audits and safety briefings.
- Promote a positive safety culture through hazard reporting and proactive interventions.
- Ensure Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) are prepared, communicated, and adhered to.
- Ensure compliance with industry excavation and utility safety standards.
- Investigate and report incidents promptly, implementing corrective actions where required.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure timely submission of completion records.
- Ensure project drawings and records remain current and accurately maintained.
- Coordinate the timely production and submission of as-built information.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Plan, coordinate, and manage all utility works from project inception through to completion.
- Coordinate design handovers, pre-start meetings, utility installations, permits, commissioning activities, and final connections.
- Maintain clear and professional communication with clients, developers, utility providers, and stakeholders.
- Ensure pre-construction site reviews are completed and documented to a high standard.
- Deliver excellent customer service and resolve issues efficiently.
Team Leadership
- Manage and coordinate direct labour and subcontractors to maximise productivity and efficiency.
- Monitor workforce performance and conduct appraisals where required.
- Lead teams fairly and professionally while maintaining high standards of behaviour and performance.
- Ensure resources are allocated effectively to meet programme requirements.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all works are completed to specification and industry standards.
- Maintain quality control throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor progress against programme requirements and implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Ensure accurate record keeping and project reporting.
Project Delivery & Commercial Management
- Forward plan all activities to ensure efficient project delivery.
- Monitor project progress through regular communication with site teams and stakeholders.
- Work closely with commercial teams to ensure project costs, forecasts, and valuations remain accurate.
- Manage material procurement efficiently and minimise waste.
- Coordinate plant and equipment requirements to avoid delays and maximise utilisation.
- Monitor plant usage and ensure unnecessary costs are eliminated.
- Ensure project sites remain organised, safe, and professionally presented.
- Coordinate project handovers between design, operational, and commercial teams.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, materials, and project costs.
Sustainability
- Maximise efficiency by reducing unnecessary site visits and optimising resource allocation.
- Ensure projects are delivered profitably while maintaining quality standards.
- Promote the recycling, reuse, and recovery of materials wherever practical.
- Minimise waste and ensure surplus materials are returned or credited where possible.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years' experience within the multi-utility or utility infrastructure sector.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a supervisory or management role.
- SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme).
- Streetworks Supervisor qualification.
- Utility sector safety and environmental certifications.
- Utility network competency accreditations (gas, water, electric or equivalent).
- Full UK driving licence.
- First Aid at Work qualification.
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of utility infrastructure construction and associated disciplines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management systems.
- Sound knowledge of health, safety, environmental, and industry regulations.
