Overview
One of our Transport Clients is currently recruiting for a commercially minded Finance Business Partner to support operational and commercial leaders within a Public Sector / Transport environment. You will provide robust financial insight, challenge assumptions, and help shape decisions through strong analysis, modelling, and risk awareness.
- Contract Length: 3-6 months
- IR35 Status: Pending Confirmation (Expecting Inside IR35)
- Location: Hybrid – Cambridgeshire (1 day per week on-site)
- Day Rate: £375 per day
- Start Date: July
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Advisory: Act as the primary financial liaison to operational and commercial leaders, providing clear advice to inform decision-making.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead annual budgeting and rolling reforecasting processes, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and service delivery plans.
- Performance Analysis: Prepare and present monthly business performance packs, highlighting variances, trends, key performance indicators, and recommended actions.
- Commercial Analysis: Build financial models to evaluate feasibility of new projects, contracts, pricing, and investments, including scenario and sensitivity analysis.
- Risk Management: Identify financial and non-financial business risks and suggest mitigating solutions, escalating where appropriate.
- Support business cases, funding submissions, and governance packs with clear narrative and evidence-based recommendations.
- Improve financial controls, reporting accuracy, and stakeholder understanding of performance drivers.
Skills & Experience Required
- Qualified accountant (CCAB or equivalent) or qualified by experience with demonstrable finance business partnering capability.
- Experience within public sector, transport, or similarly regulated/service-led environments.
- Strong management accounting, budgeting, and forecasting experience, including variance analysis.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills with the confidence to challenge and influence at senior levels.
- Clear communication skills, able to present complex financial information to non-finance audiences.
- Proactive, delivery-focused, and comfortable working in a hybrid setting.
